Campaigning for Wales

A record of action, and a promise of more

Wales mapEnergy security: Milford haven is one of the UK’s  prime sites for oil refining and gas imports. Alan paid a visit recently and says we need a gas storage buffer stock to guarantee security of gas supplies, which Milford haven could provide.

Rural Development:  Alan and Kirsty Williams AM, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, visited the Royal Welsh Show at Builth Welss last July. Effective measures to foster rural development are essential as the EU’s agricultural policy is overhauled.

Economy: Liberal Democrats have long warned that the credit bubble was not sustainable. Now Vince Cable and Alan are seeking tougher EU financial regulation as well as investment in the green economy to overcome recession.

Alan is concerned that international crime has grown. Only closer cooperation between EU states can overcome this threat.

Campaigning on the environment

Alan went with Aled Roberts, leader of Wrexham Council, to see a local recycling facility. The EU is leading the world in tackling climate change and developing policies to protect the environment.

Alan says that the economy of Wales depends heavily on UK membership of the EU. A prime example is Airbus Industrie in North Wales which employs nearly 7000 workers.
